Status Grand Prix
Founded in 2005, Status Grand Prix Ltd based at Silverstone in the UK is co-owned by founder Mark Gallagher. The team won the 2009 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport for Ireland before progressing to GP3, the new feeder series to Formula One, where it finished 2nd in the 2010 series and has been a race winner again in 2011. The team has also operated a Lola LMP2 sports prototype car under contract this year, including competing in the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours race where it finished 3rd in class.
The team was initially founded to run A1 Team Ireland in the A1GP series in 2005, the only worldwide open wheeled racing series other than Formula One, and during its four years in this category Status was also asked to operate the entry for Canada in 2007/08 and Holland in 2008/09.
The team enjoyed a highly successful season in 2007/08, scoring victories in South Africa and Mexico, while in the 2008/09 season the team took a commanding lead in the championship after outright wins in the grands prix in China, Malaysia and New Zealand, and went on to clinch the World Cup of Motorsport title at Brands Hatch in May 2009. With the title under its belt Status successfully tendered for a hotly contested entry into GP3 for 2010, and emerged as championship leaders from the opening round in Barcelona, Spain, in May 2010.
Status went on to win the GP3 races supporting the Formula One Grands Prix in Britain, Germany, Belgium and Italy – confirming its position as one of Europe’s leading teams. Status has been a front running team in GP3 again in 2011, and has further extended its activities by competing in sports prototype racing including operating a Lola LMP2 car under contract for the world famous Le Mans 24 Hours – one of the greatest challenges in racing.
